Fityaan LEADER Program (Link between Agriculture and Rural Development
To actively contribute to social construction and fulfillment, Jamiya is also active in development activities such as agriculture, fishing, entrepreneurship, etc.
Faced with food insecurity, agriculture today represents a formidable development tool. To this end, the Fityaanou Sidkhine Association sees the strengthening of its agricultural activities as a priority strategy for eradicating hunger and poverty, especially in rural areas. As part of its F.A.P (Fityaan Agriculture Program) program, Jamiya is farming hundreds of hectares of arable land in the Saloum and Casamance regions. Under this program, the Association grows groundnuts, corn, millet, sorghum and, for the past two years, upland rice under the Senegalese government’s program. Yields from this F.A.P are used to support pupils with poor parents and to build and repair school infrastructure.
Fityaan School Garden F.S.G program
The Fityaan School Garden F.S.G program also includes market gardening in the form of a school garden. In fact, in each locality where the association is building a school, it is also planning extracurricular activities, including the development of green spaces known as school gardens.
Vegetables and fruit are grown in these green spaces. The school gardens are used in part to supply the school canteens, while the remainder, sold on the market, enables certain pupils to obtain their school supplies and pay part of their school fees.
